By far the most common operating system we deal with at ACS Data Recovery are Microsoft Windows based hard drives. It's not necessarily that it is any worse than other operating systems (we'll leave that debate for another time), it's just that it happends to be the most commonly used operating system for now. While we also specialize in Mac and Linux operating systems, the vast majority of drives are running either FAT 16, FAT 32, or NTFS partitions on a variety of different Windows operating systems. Typical problems that can cause data loss in Windows based systems are:

• Accidental file deletion
• Accidental format / fdisk
• Data loss after power outage or electrical short
• System reinstall
• Inaccessible Boot Device 0x0000007B

Whatever problem you have experienced, we can help you get your data back. As a general rule, it's good to degrag your hard drive on a regular basis to prevent what is known as fragmentation. This is common problem in Windows-based operating systems, since bits of data can end up scattered throughout the platters. By defragging your drive, you help insure that if you do suffer a logical or physical hard drive failure, you will have a much cleaner recovery.

When our customers call, the two most common symptoms we get are, an error "Inaccessible Boot Device" or the dreaded "Blue Screen of Death". Both are issues surrounding Windows-based operating systems, and can be caused by a number of different issues. We find a number of these cases involve abnormalities with the registry in Windows, and in some cases it can even be a result of a physical failure of the hard drive.
